Dave:
This is a common scam. These are always scams. After bidding for an
SX88 on ebay a guy wrote me offering a mint unit for $500.00. I played
him like a cheap violin. I convinced him he had to refer to me as "Mr.
Big Dick", and I insisted that he furnish me a lengthly history (he was
very creative) which I quizzed him on a dozen times. He sent me stolen
ebay pix of another ebay Rx, and I had him send me a photo of himself
(to verify that he was really in London) holding a copy of the London
Times in one hand and a hand written sign in the other saying "I like
Mr. Big Dick." I kept upping my demands and he eventually went away.
There is a story on the web of a guy being scammed by a Nigerian, and
had the scammer hand carve (out of wood) and ship him a replica of a
computer keyboard to demonstrate his sincerity! Have fun but be
careful - these guys are criminals.
