This is why linears were invented.  :-)

Plus if you let it slide into oscillation, it's good for CW.  Should a
hacker BC-A*-229 wind up in my lap, I might want to try converting the
detector, a diode wired triode, into a regen detector which, with a
regerative RF string, should make for an interesting receiver.  But that
would lead to creating a hotted up Tx to go with it necessitating another
hacker.  Where will it ever end?  ;-)
