I just did some searching about cadmium oxide. From what I can gather (and it is somewhat 
confusing) the stuff appears to be fairly dangerous, but it has to be ingested/exposed in fairly 
large quantities over a fairly long period of time in order to do significant damage.

It makes the bones brittle, and damages the lungs and kidneys.

However, I am not at all certain that the white powder left on these "flower pots" IS in fact 
cadmium oxide.

In any case, since they are all shorted anyway, I 'll probably simply toss them.
