They were a lot worse before they moved to Midland. Yes, there were lots of
self-important jerks in the organization but, now, they are taking the
museum job much more seriously. The big problem with a volunteer
organization is the accumulation of people who think that membership makes
them somebody special.
I have been treated the same as you were, incidentally, so I fully
understand. In the early days, particularly, people donated an aircraft and
then still thought it was theirs. That was a big problem for a while and
ended up costing the CAF aircraft and material. They are a different
organization now. They are an accredited museum and act as such. However,
I am absolutely certain that there are still some jerks in the organization.
I had to shepherd them around in flights and it was really a problem when
you got a hard head that thought he knew better how to fly an airshow and
refused to follow the rules.
The CAF lost a great resource when they treated you the way that they did.
You are one of the world's authorities on World War II radios. Pity they
did that.
I will apologize to you on behalf of the CAF. (I don't think that will
change the jerks, though! They are too busy being important.)
I will try to remember to invite you to the DFW Wing open house next fall
when we set up the TCS. I think you would enjoy it and I will introduce you
to some of the good guys. In fact, that invitation is open to all on this
list.

Lenox, you know my respect for you.
Frankly, I can- and actually have- gotten over the name change.
And I understand their constraints and limitations.
But none of that is an excuse for an arrogant, condecending
and rude attitude towards anyone, much less someone
sincerely trying to help. And that's what I and others
got from them. And why did they accept donations they
knew they were going to throw out, and then laugh in
my face (that's right) about it when asked?
Lenox, if you tell me I was just unlucky and these
guys were the exception rather than the rule,
your word is good enough for me. I'll get off
my hobby horse about it. And when I hit the Megabucks
for a couple hundred mil, we can at least talk
about an endowment. But they'll have to change
the name back ;-).
