[ARC5] LM/BC-221 Freq Meter Count

I can see why someone may want to use a 221 for a QRP rig since these were so stable.
However, I would certainly prefer a junker for the project. One that could not be put back
into service.
I found some DX20,35s and 40s at Dayton that had been stripped of power supply
transformers, chokes, meters and tubes. Not much left except the coils, band switches and
capacitors. I showed my students how to make them useful again with a simple solid state
oscillator and power mosfet. And with 12 volt power supply got around 10 watts out.
Would never thought of do that with one that could have been restored. But there were
too few parts left. A couple did have dented up cases.
I liked the info on the 24 volt operation of the ARC-5 sets. In this way they could still be put
to good use with out being modified. You could even go to 6 volt tubes and run them off 12 VDC and
use rechargable batteries for the 24 volt B+. How much B+ current did they draw at 24 Volts?

I have about 10 LM's and an equal number of BC-221's.
As someone said earlier, with one exception, all of my Freq Meters areeasily calibrated to be on target with the frequency book.
I have several LM's with no book, but I have a copy of a program writtenby BA Bob, AKA a professor at NC State Univ, that will create a freqbook. I haven't actually used it, because as another list membersaid, I've found using an Excel spreadsheet easier.
In terms of use, I have 2 LM's in my shop, and I use them from timeto time.Best,-Tom KE4RHH
