In days gone by, K7IRK and myself went up to the Dallas sidewalk sale
and we would see who could buy the most BC-221s for $5 or less. So, I
kept most of mine but I did use a few for parts. I didn't use my
head, at the time, and collect one of each model. I have LMs, and the
221s, including the UHF look alike. Somewhere around here I have a
manual which explains each model with schematics. I did do some
experimenting by replacing the oscillator tube with an MPF 102 J-Fet,
zener and resistor. It worked great and no recalibrating needed. I
don't remember the details but still have the unit and the paper work
is stored in one of the boxes.

A great precision instrument.
