Thanks for that post, Gordon.
For me, at least to a degree, "form over function" when it 
comes to A.R.C.'s radios.  Mike is, of course, right in 
many of his points, but those points concern system 
performance and deployment.  
The question and my post were rather about 
what I, personally, found attractive about the gear:
Story, History, Engineering Elegance & Audacity, and Challenge.
