I recently bought (on E-Bay) an ARC-5 Transmitter, in the 2.1~3 Mhz. range.
Looks pretty clean and unhacked, except for a broken mount for the roller
inductor. I replaced it with a part from a "junker" unit that I had
acquired, some time ago and thought I was "good to go".
I kept hearing a small "clink- clink" from the underside, each time I turned
the unit over. Upon removing the bottom cover, I see that the tiny glass
(maybe plastic) spacers in each of the three variable caps were missing. One
was loose and floating around under the cover, but the other 5 were simply
gone. The seller had carefully packed bubble wrap in and around the caps, to
minimize "clinking noises", I suppose. Caveat emptor, etc., etc. No major
dings or bends in the unit, and I can't imagine just how they got
dislocated, through normal shipping beats & bangs.
The junker, mentioned above, has all 6 of the spacers in place. Anyone got
any magical way to remove from said junker and install these in the unit
being refurbished, without MAJOR surgery, to remove the caps in the TX under
restoration?
