Sounds like it may be the "improved" RT-298/ARC-2A rather than the
original RT-91/ARC-2.  The quality "simplifications" made to the
RT-298 included tuning knobs that were plastic and easy to break.
The RT-91 uses sturdy machined-metal knobs.

Good man again!

It would not have worked any better if you had modified it.  (Up to
1978, I operated one in original condition on 28 vdc.)  It would
have become worthless, rather than a desirable original piece of 
military and technical history.
