[ARC5] Pre-WW2 technology

The AN/ARC-5 was a follow-on to the ATA/ARA - virtually identical - 
which followed the SCR-274-N, and the RAV and RAT sets, of which the 
Type K was the prototype. Yes, they were early superhets, and were the 
brainchildren of engineers at Radio Frequency Laboratories, later 
Aircraft Radio Corporation of Boonton, N.J. (A VERY small but 
highly-advanced research and design firm.) I believe they were conceived 
in the wake of the Air Corps Air Mail fiasco  of 1933, though the first 
sets A.R.C. produced then were the TRF    RU/GF and SCR-183 sets. Yes, 
they were superhets, modular and for the time, quite miniaturized.
