[ARC5] BC-946 Tuning capacitor removal and panel straightening

I can report a successful outcome regarding straightening the front panel of that damaged BC-946 I asked for help on a week ago. I chickened out of applying force to the bent antenna post, and opted to dismantle the unit. I didn't disconnect the wires to the tuning capacitor, and managed to ease it over backwards enough to disconnect and remove the antenna post. It was then simple to use a C-clamp and suitable packing to squeeze the panel flat again, before reassembly. I am not attempting to check it out electrically yet, as it is the only BC-946 I have, and I have been searching for a while before I found this one (in the US on ebay) - I don't know how common they are in the US, but they seem very uncommon here in the UK. By comparison the other SCR-274 receivers are much easier to get here. I plan to get my examples of these working first; meanwhile the BC-946 looks good sitting on its rack!

Many thanks for all the most useful advice, gentlemen!

Andy
