There was the ARC-1 as well. Yes, the designation ARC-1 was changed to the
familiar VHF transceiver, but the APR-1 started as the ARC-1 (SCR-587).
However, tuning units from the ARC-1 were not directly compatible with the
APR-1 and APR-4 because they lacked the socket for the motor drive 24Vdc
pin. Otherwise, they were compatible. The field change required one to drill
the matching hole in ARC-1 tuning units. And, there was the receiver that
started it all, the General Radio P-540 test receiver designed by Don
Sinclair.
