No pain, no gain... :-)

I have done many of these types of repairs without mishap, Andy - and as 
you can see with Dennis Monticelli's post, I'm not the only one who has 
had a high degree of success.  While there are never any guarantees, I 
would encourage you to give it a try.  If you break an antenna 
insulator, so what?  This group can easily cover that.  The 
C-clamp/drill press approach gives you the time to examine everything on 
an incremental basis, so you can decide whether you want to continue or 
go for the capacitor removal procedure at any point along the line.  I 
think you'll be happy with the result if you are careful.  If something 
doesn't "feel" right, then stop and think it over.  That has saved me 
countless times.
