[ARC5] Interesting find.

Recently, while going through my stash of ARC-5 receivers, 150 of which I
received from an estate as a gift at least 10 years ago, I found two units,
mounted on the remains of three-receiver racks, which appear to be some
sort of a double or maybe even triple-conversion 80/40 meter receiver
system.

In one case, there is an R-26/ARC-5 mounted to the left, an R-23/ARC-5
mounted in the center, and an R-27/ARC-5 mounted on the right. There are
cables running from the left and right receivers to the antenna input jack of
the R-23.

Furthermore, at least one IF can in each of the other receivers has been
removed, and the last IF tube which is supposed to be a 12SK7 or 12SF7,
has been changed to some sort of mixer tube.

The other such "receiver" is made up of the BC-XXX equivalents of the
AN/ARC-5 receivers.

Does anyone here remember an article in any ham magazine which
described such a monstrosity?

I was first tempted to simply dismantle both units and attempt to offer them
for parts, but now I am very curious to see if, perhaps, I might be able to
resurrect at least one unit to see how well it works, for historical reasons if for
no other.

However, I really WOULD like to see the original article, or series of articles,
that detailed this entire setup.

Any help out there?
