[ARC5] Q-5er

I remember first hearing the term back in the early 1950's and always  
understood it to refer to the "Q" signal reporting system as mentioned  
by K2GKK.  Many/most of the affordable (for me at least) receivers of  
that period were seriously short on  selectivity and adding that  
little command set to one's receiving system made a world of  
difference.  There was also a little RF pre-amp circuit popular at the  
time called the "R-9er" which gave signals a worthwhile boost  
especially on 10M.
