One of my main interests is vintage sideband, and in looking through the
folder of notes that came with a Central Electronics 10A exciter today I
came across something interesting that I hadn't seen before. It's a
single dog-eared photocopied sheet but still readable - and describes
modifications to a BC-453 for improved AVC, product detector, and high
level audio output. It's all common circuitry but I thought it might
be of interest, so I scanned it and posted a copy here:

As the notes indicate, this would be done in addition to the standard
mods. I don't intend to re-ignite the flame war over modifying mil
surplus gear but if someone has a BC-453 Q5er, I'll bet this would make
it pretty sweet on SSB. But maybe not quite a 75A4 ;-)
