I had the same detent spring problem with a SM-3A I bought to replace a 
TO-6.  Initially, I just unhooked the spring but it was too easy to move the 
switch on over to the 60 volt position by accident.  I removed and 
disassembled the switch and milled the cam to make the 50 mA position also detented, 
leaving the 60 volt position spring-return.  And reinstalled the detent 
spring.
