Might I suggest a very handy calculator that can be found for free 
download at:
http://www.dl5swb.de/html/mini_ring_core_calculator.htm

It includes full characteristics on common toroid cores, but also a set 
of easy tools for solenoid type air core inductor calculations.  Using 
it I found a decent L-C combination for 2 mhz based on 30 uH inductance 
requires about 43 turns on a 1" diameter core, taking up about 1" of 
winding length.  It's easy to compare various configurations but you 
should be able to get the desired coil with a single layer design.  
Ceramic has better characteristics, but I've had good results using 
common PVC plastic pipe and fittings.
