I'm confused about something so please bear with me.  Did the CDA-T replace
the VFO or was it used in addition to it?  If the latter, how was it
controlled?  And, finally, what receiver was used with these transmitters?  

Well, not quite finally - was this the *functional* predecessor to the
Collins 18S-1?
