That answers a host of questions. I have manuals that describe the AN-74
as part of installations, but nothing that mentions the AN-73. I suppose
the AN-74 must have been more common in the era of early VHF sets operating
around 142 MHz. It also makes sense that an aircraft with an AN-73 or -74
would be improved by replacement of that mast with the AN-104 which provides
full coverage for the VHF sets of that time (100 to 156 MHz). I've never
seen a AN-74 "in person" and I did not know what connector was at the bottom.
The AN-104 definitely uses the common SO-239, another improvement.
I thought that the plug (PL-170) for the FT-244's oddball coax connector
SO-153 was still pretty readily available. Isn't that associated plug then
what Steve is seeking?
I like the mention of the AN-72 adjustible legnth antenna. That must be
the nomenclature of the antenna that was to be controlled by the BC-602-A
control box for the SCR-522. I'll bet not many were made.
I guess the "seven-foot" notation on Chesson's page with the AN-73 must be
incorrect.
