   Do you remember the instructions for disposing of incendary bombs if 
they fell through your roof? My dad was an air raid warden, and he 
enforced the blackout. (We lived on Long Island.) I recall the streams 
of aircraft flying overhead in their way to Europe. Even the pilots 
training overhead from Mitchell Field.  And the awful stuff that washed 
up on the beaches from the torpedoed ships.

     On VE  Day and then VJ Day we all rode on the running boards of our 
father's cars downtown, blowing the horns, yelling and waving.
