Thanks Dennis. I've looked at the Citel Inc. website, as far as I can see,
their lowest gas discharge first occurs at about 75 volts.

I think the next step up in protection is a small gas discharge tube. They come in different voltages and develop a very low resistance when the gas ionizes. The capacitance is very low (<1pF) so you can use them across most antenna inputs without effect. I use the common axial lead types extensively in lieu of neon bulbs.
