[ARC5] Power Supplies for ARC-5

One option is that Heathkit made a little vibrator power supply called the VP-1 that converted 12VDC to 250V DC.  I have one but have not used it.  It is just about the right size to fit on the back of a Command Set receiver.

Does anyone know if you can cut down the DC input voltage on such a vibrator power supply and get a corresponding reduction in output voltage without burning something up?
