Bob,
You are probably thinking about the WW2 push button FM sets, the
SCR-508/528 and SCR-608/628 The 5**sets were used by the Tankers and
nominally operated only up to 27.0 MHz. (Can be squeezed up to 29.0 -
29.7 though.) The SCR-608/628 operated over a frequency range of 27.0
to 38.9 MHz and was used by the Artillery guys. The SCR-808/828
radios operated over the same range and, thus, are usable on 10M as
well but are much harder to find. Other FM radios of the period that
you might consider using on 10M are the BC-659, PRC-9, BC-1335 and
(later) RT-67. The Russian R-108 is also a neat little portable that
covers 10M but not many around.
