[ARC5] Zener Question and P-61 Info

Stupid question:

As far as limiting PS output voltage why could you not take a suitably rated zener and put it in SERIES with the B+ line? For low current drain levels I think this would "clip" the voltage by the rating of the zener, wouldn't it?

This would not provide regulation but simply a constant voltage drop, which is what I think you want to run a Command Set safely.

So if you have a PS that is putting out 300V and you want 250 or less put a 60V zener in series to get it down.

Also over at http://www.nightfighter.us/ there is a description of a P-61 RO WWII experiences. And it seems they lost an airplane because the intercom failed! With a failed intercom the pilot could not get radar navigation help from the RO and they got lost and bailed out. Seems absurd but I can see how that would happen in such a case.
