missing a tube. I'm not exactly sure what type of tube it should be
replaced with. A rectifier tube, but what kind?

Hi,

The receiver looks very nice. You can try the following for manuals:

BAMA
Robert Downs sells great repro manuals for rteasonable prices.

Note, the the (-) side of B+ may need to be floating (NOT grounded). If it
is grounded the audio stage bias may get screwed up and blow the output
transformer.

As to your power supply, check that the filament voltage is 5 V AC. If so,
som, ething like a 5Y3 GT should do it. The supply is obviously home brew
and there is likely no doc on it.

> Also, if anyone has any information on the AN/ARC-5 command sets, that
would be great too.

A really good place to start is Wiki. It tells you which set is what.

This is not a true "ARC-5". It's an ARA.... see the Wiki article. There
are ARA, ARC-5, and SCR-274-N (BC-45x) sets. The first two are Navy; the
third USAAF. There are differences.

> Appears to have a transformer added.

Replaced, not added. It was a common 50s mod to replace the original Hi-Z
output transformer with a Plate-to-Voice-Coil unit. There could well be
related mods to the audio area too.

Maybe. Your pics do not show the back end.

Is there a dynamotor there? If so, it can probably be powered with DC.
BUT check that the tubes have not been swapped to 6 Volt versions or the
filamnts rewired.

For the real experts on ARC-5s and BC-348s, join the ARC5 Group and the
MilSurplus Group both on QTH.net
