That's a good question, but I suspect whoever made the mod wasn't 
worried about it.  Even with a DM-35, which IIRC (but probably not) 
might have been in the 220-250v output region, the normal tube operating 
voltages would not have been exceeded.  The receiver designs of the 
period were pretty forgiving...the one aspect not considered by most 
hams was careful temperature compensation in the original designs for 
stability.  Then they complained about drifty military sets...:-)
