Thanks, Jess
My first receiver was an ARC-5 won at a hamfest as a door prize at age
11. Didn't even know what it was, but it inspired me to get involved in
electronics (and especially amateur radio) to this very day. The first
transmitter was an ARC-5 purchased at a hamfest for $1.50 at age 12 and
inspired my way, also. Yeah, 'hacked' them both back then just to get on
the air after taking classes to get a license. Building power supplies,
oscillators, and antennas was an amazing adventure. It was all done with
friends with a common interest while helping one another.
Recreated my original 'un-molested' ARC-5 station several years ago by
acquiring the above, obtaining and utilizing the old 'Conversion'
articles to do the very same thing. That was just to re-live the
adventure ... and it worked.
To those of you who don't like to see your version of history destroyed,
go and buy them all up. You cannot have mine, nor the memories or why I
did it.
