No. The cleverness of the post was using one 115 V primary winding as an
input, the other half as an isolated secondary (with a FW bridge). FW
rectified wit a C input filter will give you 160-180 V DC.

The scheme isolates the DC from the AC. Rectifying the line w/o isolation
is a VERY BAD idea, IMO.
