It wasn't.  Radio Mechanics of the time talked about what a pain
in the neck it was to keep working.  However, Mike M. is right
about it:  It was the first big push toward VHF in the air
and did a great deal of significant service.  No surprise it
had lots of "bugs" to work out.  Ever see all the red-lined
drawings that were actually printed in the SCR-522 maint. manuals?
Now that's a radio they wanted shipped in a hurry ;-).
