Doubtless a grizzly had the poor fellow over for dinner.....

When it comes to USAAC comm radio sets, you can draw a line of
distinction
"pre-War" and "post-War", the war years being like a "stew-pot"
with dozens of cooks each throwing his "secret ingredients" into the
boiling,
bubbling brew and Lord knew what might come out to the plates.

If I had to pick 6 USAAC comm sets to define those two eras:

pre-War: post-War:
SCR-183 AN/ARC-3
SCR-274N AN/ARC-2
SCR-287 AN/ARC-8

( IMHO, SCR-522 is a "stew-pot" radio; came in
"hodge-podge" during the war and didn't really survive the end of
it.)

Understanding these six sets will give one an appreciation of
how rapidly technology can advance in war time.
