Hi Gordon:
I haven't been following this thread, but the LF receiver was used for
the directional (A-N) beacons.
This does not require a DF antenna on the plane. See:

The B-24 must not have had a compentent pilot if he overflew the beacon
and did not recognize it.
All that 's required to determine if you're approaching or leaving the
beacon is to turn off course a little.
If you hear "A" when turning to the right, you're leaving the beacon.
If you hear "N" when turning to the right, you're approaching the
beacon. See:

The current Non Directional LF Beacons require a DF receiver in the
