[ARC5] Interesting Info and a Question

I am reading a book on the history of the Sherman tank and it points out that the Army did recognize they had a problem with infantry being unable to talk to armor due to a lack of suitable radios. The BC-1000 did not cover the armor frequency range. So they took a BC-620 and rigged it up as a backpack radio. Since the BC-620 would make a pretty good load all by itself I have no idea where they put the batteries.

Also, I found that I have two loose Command Set BFO coils. One is marked "5855 1415 KC" and has a yellow dot; it's obvious as to application. But the other coil has no markings of any kind other than a dark brown or black dot in the same position where the yellow dot is on the 1415 KC coil. Anyone have any idea what the unmarked coil is? I have a BC-453 that has a coil embossed "85 KC" so I guess both stamped and painted markings were used, but did they also use color codes?

Thanks,

Wayne
