[ARC5] Using gear - preserving gear

Hello list:

Without beginning a new thread, and on the subject of "preserving" vs "using", and at the same time saying something rather obvious:

REALLY GOOD STUFF.
If I came into possession of a complete/as new "command" (AN/ARC-5 or even some other set) I would treat it (preserve it) in a completely different way to the way I deal with other sets that I have.

JUNK vs NICE STUFF.
I have sets that are "junk". I wreck "pillage" on these sets. I have sets that are "not quite new out in box", - and I keep them that way, pretty much. I have sets that are partly modified, but not too much. I restore these sets as much as possible.

BENEFIT OF BELONGING TO THIS THIS.
I imagine my strategy above is the same as just about every other subscriber to this list. When I first arrived (here) I came with back-ground got from 1960's CQ. That was: I'm an amateur radio operator. I modify, hack, change, and experiment. I'm an unrecognised genius; the Edison within only needs the right circumstances to escape and be revealed.

With the help of this group my attitude changed. Here I learned the value of these sets.

That's all I have to say.
