The origin of the much-misunderstood quote
from radio operator vets: "We never used
the Command Set."  The Radio Ops didn't use it.
The Pilots did.  The Radio guy set the freqs
before the mission, unless a "Radio Mechanic"
at a larger base was available to do it
in several aircraft before the crews even
arrived.  He's the poor guy trudging 
plane to plane, lugging a BC-221 full of 
batteries in the cold, pre-dawn fog.
