Quite.

Come to the U.S. and take a close look at metric threads in use
here. It has been a nightmare for the auto industry, among others.
Furthermore, since the U.S. imports everything now, the plethora
of DIFFERENT metric threads has compounded the problem.

Possibly in Oz that has never been a problem, but it sure as heck
has been here!!!!!!

When I mentioned the Italian rapier with metric diameter and
turns-per-inch, I was not kidding: I was speaking from experience.

Also, as mentioned here, the Japanese version of metric totally
fouls up their circuit boards as far as "standard" is concerned.

I did not say that metric measurements were not far more logical
and much easier to use than English/Imperial: what I said was
that the latter have been actually, really, truly standardized for at
least two centuries (I had forgotten that the 20th century is past),
while, in the present world, due mainly to the European equivalent
of "not invented here" metric threads have not been standardized
yet.

Oz might be different...

As another example, I have never heard of "metric coarse", and
although I am a VERY amateur machinist, I have had SOME
experience in dealing with metric threads!!
