There was a related split between the CGS and Rationalized MKS systems.

Remember abamps?

I've learnt both EE and ME and use the two systems interchangably. If
doing EE, I use MKS; if ME the English system. I really have zero feeling
for an air conditioner calculation in calories or a beam strength in Kg.

You only really have to learn about a dozen conversions.

IMO, neither system really has much over the other.

Oh, and frequencies are in Hz. Wavelengths are in microns or nanoimeters
(optical).

FWIW,

-John
