Harvey and ...
I have a copy of a very nifty CQ article covering a 3-band (80-40-20) plus
Q-multiplier, conversion of the BC-453 which is very compact and
professional looking, written by Donald L.Stoner, W6TNS, titiled, "Surplus
Conversions The Single Sideband Q5'er," and is based upon and references to
earlier similar conversion articles. Detailled coil specifications are also
given. It is meant for SSB reception but that doesn't disqualify it for CW.
W6TNS used it mostly for mobile work and was very pleased with its
performance. I intend to use this article on one of my 453's - mods are
minimal so it can always be retroed.
Unfortunately, my photocopy clipped the date
but I know it is post 1956, most probably mid to late '60s and I might have
it in my in my newly acquired older CQs - But it shouldn't be hard to
download from the CQ's subscription site.
I could scan and pdf it.
