[ARC5] BC-453/Q5er Converter

Way back in 1961, I built a small one-tube converter
for 75 meters to go with the BC-453 receiver. I think
it probably used a 6BE6 as crystal oscillator/mixer.
Since I was primarily interested in 75 AM meter phone
work, I probably used a crystal that would get me the
3.8 - 4.0 MC/s range.
I have no idea what the details were, but they could
not have been TOO fancy. I probably pitched the thing
when I bought a Hammarlund HQ-145X in late 1961, my
very first ever NEW piece of ham gear.
I actually HAVE found a circuit for such a converter
that I drew from some source back then. It used a
6BZ6 as an RF amp, and a 6U8A triode/tetrode as a
crystal oscillator/mixer.
I don't think that was what I had but a plan for the
future until I bought that HQ-145X.
Coils were to be wound on 1/2" diameter polystyrene
rod and there were no other special components. It
was going to be run from the same power supply that
was powering the BC-453 (Walter Ashe power supply
from my first Novice station. I did convert the
BC-453 to 6.3 Volt filaments 'cause that's all I
had available for a filament supply.
I'm pretty sure the circuit came from some magazine.
It was going to serve on both 80 and 40 meters using
a dual section 265 mmFd variable to tune the RF amp
and the input to the mixer section of the 6U8A.
I drew the schematic on spiral notebook paper with
#4 drafting pencil. Amazing that I still have the
schematic, but I am truly a packrat and filed almost
everything for almost 57 years of hamming.
I don't know if it would scan, but I don't have a
scanner anyway.

I am looking for circuits for an 80 or 80/40 meter converter for
the BC-543. I have several old circuits but they involve coils and
IF transformers that are not readily available. Solid state is OK,
I just want to finally have a working Q5er.
Thanks,
Harvey, K5YU
