[ARC5] Keys, mikes,and headsets question

We often see the J-38 described as though
it was a key used in combat situations.
In fact, the J-38 was almost exclusively
used in Code training classes. Each classroom
would have dozens, one for each seat.
That's why there are so many of them still
around. The J-36, J-37 and those keys
specific to a field set, plus variations
on the Navy -26003A were the rule by a mile.
I've seen -26003A keys fitted for use
with ship blinker lights; used to own one.
Perhaps so many J-36s survived because of
the strange but endearing tendancy of
code radio operators to become attached
to the bug they spent so many hours
carressing. Hmmm.... Wonder what connection
a psychologist could make out of that
and men's other carressing activites?
A bug can certainly be just as
cranky and fickle.
Naaaaaa....
