Most of the time, yes. :-)

However, both the U.S.and the Germans used TRF receivers with regen 
detectors that didn't have that problem.

Almost all the VLF and LF receivers of WWII, except the BC-314 perhaps, 
were TRFs. The RAK, RBL, RBA, Mackay 128AY, and others were TRFs 
with regen detectors. None of those had the "two-handed" problem.

The RAL, the HF version of the RAK, is a really sweet receiver, easy to use, 
very stable and sensitive, and selectivity is good....not the best, mind you, 
but good enough.
