Respectfully- As I've said many, many times, but it seems
still not enough:  HF was not "replaced" by VHF in combat
aircraft, especially not in the Pacific.  The two systems continued
to be used concurrently throughout the war and long after,
with extensive documentation that VHF in the Pacific was
far from "ready for prime time."   I've written extensively 
on this, with documentation and cites, for years,
yet this myth still won't die.   Sigh.....
