As I've said a number of times, this descended on me not so much because of
what I know but because I have no life. Instead, I depend on people like
you, Gordon, Mike Hanz, Mike Morrow, Robert Downs and others. This in large
part is because I am unable to do direct research myself due to
circumstances, some of which are known by folks here but more to the docs at
the VA clinic, most notably the psych unit.
May I propose something here that's a bit different but worth considering.
Since I can't do this on my own, what about the possibility of basically
assembling what the aforementioned gentlemen (and others?) produce to use as
the core of the book's narrative portion - at least where the history and
implementation (including sanctioned conversions) are concerned? While the
Type-K derived sets have fairly well covered, the Model D-based ones have
been largely ignored as you pointed out as have the postwar Type 12 and
related products plus the various abortive attempts at military contracts
like the AN/APR-9 and AN/ARC-39.
Credit (and royalties) could be shared or pooled, whichever winds up
preferable, among those doing the actual work since all I'm doing is taking
advantage of the efforts of others and assembling them into some sort of
order. I'm not in this for money or glory, just to ensure that a piece of
history isn't lost in time.
I'm trying to assemble a reasonable collection of Cessna manuals to get a
clearer picture of the later general aviation equipment made under the
A.R.C. flag but entirely different from their earlier systems to complete
the total picture "cradle to grave" when Aircraft Radio & Control was sold
off to Sperry and absorbed into their product line. Many of the assembled
few here have no interest in this last part - or anything postwar - but to
be complete they have to be included.
The infamous lists are being expanded slowly as new information becomes
available although I'm considering a slight rearrangement of some, notably
the connector drawings. With that, I'm considering removing the pinouts for
the associated equipment (ZA, ZB, AN/ARR-1, BC-183 et al) although I will
probably include those pieces somewhere, probably in the narrative.
The WE VHF components present a problem. While not A.R.C. products, they
are components of the SCR-274-N and AN/ARC-5 systems which means there's
justification for inclusion and for exclusion in equal parts. I'll probably
wind up leaving them in but with the same note that's with them now that
they are not A.R.C. products.
Does any of this make sense or are my meds doing their thing again?
Best regards,
Michael, WH7HG BL01xh
