  I wonder if you may be thinking of the AN/ARC-9 (Bendix RTA-1B), Ken?  
I always considered it the philosophical predecessor of the AN/ARC-2 - 
same size and all.  It does indeed have 807s in a similar configuration 
to the ARC-2.
