I think you guys are over reacting. Back in the late 50's and early 60's
these were the only types of radios I could afford. No one thought any of
them were rare, or really cared about the variations. The war was only over
10 to 20 years before, so, they were not collectible. This is the kind of
stuff we cut our teeth on and learned from and in more cases than not led to
our career paths. I built about 4 of the HBR series receivers, and guess
were the 85 KC 2nd IF cans came from. The variable capacitors with their
large gear ratios out of the transmitters made beautiful and stable VFOs. I
still remember the first one I built. I filled the back of the tuning dial
with melted solder to make a flywheel and put it on the capacitor tuning
shaft. One good spin and it would go from one end to the other. What smooth
tuning. Since now I collect the stuff of course I want perfect and nice,
but, I have no regrets at all in doing what I did. Maybe if I had not gone
down this career path, I would not be able to afford my neat toys today. 73

This model isn't common.
The original goof-us whacked two scarce sets
to make one "jack-a-lope" radio.
