Well, it is a shame.  But there's more to this than meets the eye.  
R-148/ARC-5X tunes (originally) 190-550 KC (and see rear view photo - this was 
probably originally an R-148).  But not only has the tuning dial been replaced 
with one from an R-24 or equivalent, the IF transformers (or at least the 3rd 
one) have been changed as well.  One of the side view photos show the top 
of the 3rd IF, which has 239 KC stenciled on it, instead of the original 85 
KC.
