What was the name of the SAC base at Bangor?
It must have closed before I went into SAC in 1963.

> I believe that Gables was / is a manufacturer of comercial airline avionics.Your data plate indicates Eastern Airlines, a now non-existant airline. When I was a teenager I flew the Eastern "shuttle" between Newark, N.J. and Boston, Mass. probably 50 times or more. They flew Lockheed "Electras" back then. Same airframe as PV-3's (correct me if I'm wrong, guys!).
> As an aside,I spent several wonderful summers on the Allagash waterway in Maine. To get to Maine, I flew from Newark,N.J. to Bangor International on olde, just this side of scrap, Connie's.( I think Eastern Airlines too) I watched with fascnation as the rivits danced on the wings as we literally skimmed the treetops going in to Bangor. Those engines made every note in the orchestra and you could hear Rossini or Beathoven or any composer you wished just by imagining the score. You wonder why Bangor ME is an international airport? It is a retired SAC base and has long runways. Back then, the international terminal was a large shack, mil style. It was also the domestic terminal. If I could live those youthful days all over again, I would in a heartbeat!
