To follow up on Henry's posting, the Nov 1962 article in CQ by DC McCoy, W8DG, is excellent. It includes details that I've not seen in other articles about ARC-5 TX's. But apart from all that the article is well written and interesting to read. I thought this was going to be about modifying one transmitter to cover 160-10 meters. Instead it describes modications to 4 transmitters to achieve the 160-10 meter coverage. Includes good info on a suitable power supply and switching circuit for the combined units.
Now the "bad" news. To get the article you must subscribe to the CQ archives. A one day subscription is $5, and there's a 3 month deal for $20. I didn't find the archives's search engine very user friendly. Searching on the key word "ARC-5", for example, doesn't give you the listing for McCoy's article that begins on Page 110 in the Nov 62 issue. Entering the keyword, SCR-274N, gave me a bunch of listings that turned out to be for advertisements. The only way I was successful in searching, in general, for ARC-5 articles, was to go to the December issue of a year, and look at the annual index of articles which was usually at the end of the December issue. Bummer. If anyone figures out a way to identify articles in the CQ archives using an easier technique, please let us know. Meantime ... here's a hot link to the CQ Archives on line:

BTW, I found print quality of the article satisfactory by going to the PDF version which is offered for each page. (Each page is offered in HTML and PDF versions.)
