[ARC5] Metric "standards" - so-called.

Hello List:

Ken posted a description of a frustrating problem which began with a
commercial bolt-thread he recently bought. Ken's posting concerned standardization and my support for the metric "standard". This subject has been worked-over pretty well recently, and I decided to reply to Ken's posting privately. In short, I suggest the commercial item he bought came from the Unified Thread System - a US & Canadian
attempt to provide a standard covering the differences between the
US and Canadian systems. This is not part of the ISO 68-1 metric standard, and I can't comment on the UTS.

Multiple standards can be frustrating, as Ken observes.

As for me, I will answer any further postings on the imperial-metric standards privately. I believe that the operation of the list depends on the good-will of list members, and the length of some of my replies have taken that to the limit.

I thank every-one on the list (and Ken in particular) for their/his
patience over the last week or so.

Les
