I agree Bob. I have a nice Heath Twoer here but nobody on  2Mtrs here knows 
what AM is. 
 
Used to have a 2Mtr multi mode with AM on it. Called CQ on the  calling 
freq often on AM, would get back a call with op stating 'there's  something 
wrong with your modulation old boy', I'd reply 'what mode you  listening in?'  
Usual reply was 'mode? whats a mode?'
